Phil’s Journey to Excellence

Perfection is a lofty goal, often pursued but rarely achieved. In the world of sports, it’s epitomized by unbeatable records like the 1972 Miami Dolphins’ 17-0 season, Don Larsen’s perfect game in the 1956 World Series, and Michael Jordan’s flawless NBA Finals record. This standard of excellence, though rare, can be found in various fields, including the demanding industry of property restoration. In this edition of Restoration Roundtables, we spotlight Phuntsok Dhargyal otherwise known as Phil, the owner of PuroClean in Alexandria, Virginia, a business that has achieved its own version of perfection with its perfect Google My Business rating.

A Tale of Growth and Passion

Phil’s entry into property restoration is a story marked by continuous growth and undying passion. He began the PuroClean franchise in 2018, a significant milestone in his career, but his involvement in the industry started much earlier. Rising from a crew member to a project manager, Phil’s decision to start PuroClean was fueled by a shared vision between him and his founding partner Tenzin Jigme. With their deep insight into the industry’s demands, they realized the potential impact this service could provide for their community.

Overcoming Early Challenges

The initial stages of any business are often fraught with challenges, and Phil’s experience was no different. He candidly discusses the early hurdles: “If I can change a little bit, I think I will change the way of marketing. At the time, I was the one who was running out the door and doing door-to-door marketing.” Phil’s reflection on these initial marketing strategies reveals the learning curve and adaptability that have been key to his success.

Similarly, staffing presented its own set of challenges. “Finding the right people… was challenging,” he admits, underscoring the difficulty of assembling a team adept in the specialized field of property restoration.

Operational Excellence

Phil’s pursuit of excellence in property restoration is evident in his operational achievements. “We have a perfect rating on Google My Business — five stars, almost 100 reviews,” Phil proudly states. This impressive feat is no small accomplishment in an industry as challenging as property restoration. It’s a direct reflection of Puroclean Alexandria’s commitment to delivering top-notch service consistently.

Phil attributes this stellar performance to his team’s dedication and a well-honed operational strategy that ensures every client’s needs are met with the highest standards.

Mentors and Personal Beliefs

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama

Phil’s journey has been shaped by influential figures in both his personal and professional life. On a personal level, Phil draws inspiration from his Buddhist faith, citing His Holiness The Dalai Lama as a guiding figure. “I am a Buddhist, so I try to do the right thing… in return, they [customers] give me a call,” Phil shares, highlighting the interplay of his personal values and professional ethics.

Speaking about his business inspiration, Phil reflects, “My business partner (Tenzin Jigme), he is my mentor, and he’s somebody I looked up to… he kind of built the system our PuroClean is now.” This partnership was founded on mutual respect and shared vision, has been pivotal in the company’s success.

Wisdom for Industry Peers

Drawing from his rich experience, Phil offers valuable advice to peers in the industry. “Just getting involved, get in touch with people who work around you,” he suggests, emphasizing the importance of staying connected and informed. He recommends going to PuroClean conventions and joining Facebook groups for restoration as ways to connect with others in the industry.

When it comes to building a team, Phil believes in a harmonious blend of skill and cultural fit. “I look for somebody who’s good with teamwork… to see if they fit right in the team,” he explains. This approach to team building, focusing on loyalty and teamwork, has been a cornerstone of his operational success.

Industry Trends and Adaptation

The property restoration industry is ever-evolving, and Phil has keen observations on these changes. “On the tech side of the industry, there’s always going to be new technologies,” Phil notes, highlighting the rapid integration of AI and various applications in their daily operations.

He also sheds light on the complexities of dealing with insurance companies, mentioning that “the guidelines seem like they’re always changing.” Keeping abreast of these developments is crucial for Phil, as it helps navigate the intricacies of insurance work and employ the latest technology effectively.

Crafting a Dream Team for PuroClean

When asked to come up with a dream team for his PuroClean company, without hesitation, he named Tenzin Jigme for business operations, Scott Sandal for sales and marketing, and Soepa as his lead technician. This trio exemplifies the ideal blend of expertise and commitment that Phil values in his team. Currently, Tenzin Jigme is Phil’s business partner, Scott Sandal has taken up the role of Vice President of Sales of PuroClean, and Soepa is actively serving as the lead technician.

Concluding Thoughts

Phil’s career trajectory is more than just a feel-good tale; it’s a lesson in the sheer force of grit, agility, and the critical role of a cohesive team. This isn’t just overcoming the odds; it’s a blueprint for startup success. What really sets his story apart? It’s the seamless fusion of his personal ethos and professional integrity, coupled with a genuine commitment to the community he serves. That’s what’s earned his business a perfect rating on google. This is not just about making a mark; it’s about setting a standard. Buckle up — this is the embodiment of perfection in the entrepreneurial sphere.
